Bobby Thomas — Building Official
Bobby Thomas joined the Humboldt County Building and Safety Department in 2008.

Bobby began his career by completing the Building Inspection Technology Course at Butte College, CA in May 1990.
His experience includes, Deputy Inspector for Amador County CA., Building Equipment Maintainer, Acting Supervisor GTE California, Permit Tech City of Ventura CA., Building Inspector II, Acting Supervising Inspector County of Ventura, CA., Building Inspector II City of Chico, CA., Commercial Combo Inspector Clark County, Nevada, Building Inspector IV City of North Las Vegas, NV., and the Building Inspector IV, Acting Supervisor Inspector City of Henderson, NV. He also has performed a variety of plan checks and inspection on such projects as, Single/Multi Family Housing, Light Commercial Project, Municipal Projects and Major High Rise Hotel-Casino Projects on the Vegas Strip and surround areas. He also has supervisory training and education that includes the experience of holding the titles of Acting Supervisor and Acting Supervising Inspector with his previous employers.
The Building Official is appointed by the Humboldt County Commissioners as a department head.
The Building Official is responsible for the overall management of the Building and Safety Department. The Building Official supervises staff, implements policies, performs inspections and plan reviews, advises and presents programs to the County Commissioners, and prepares and administers the budget.
Bobby also performs fire code reviews for the State Fire Marshal´s office through an inter-local agreement with Humboldt County.
Karen Johnson — Building Inspector III
Karen Johnson joined the Humboldt County Building and Safety Department staff in 1989. She is responsible for issuing permits, performing residential plan reviews, answering the telephones and doing daily paperwork for the building department. Karen holds an ICC Building Inspector Certification, Residential Plan Reveiw Certification & IECC Residential Inspector/Plan Examiner
